Besides the experienced, hard working and Hollywood-loved production people, another great advantage of shooting in Hungary is the 30% tax rebate.
Take the Money and Run!
About the 30% tax refund when filming in Hungary - in a nutshell.
What is it?
The Hungarian Motion Picture Act and Corporate Tax Act provides great financial benefits for those who decide to bring their film production to Hungary.
To put it simple:
If a non-Hungarian production company shoots a movie in Hungary (or brings here even only video and/or audio post-production), it can get 30 percent of the costs back from the Hungarian government indirectly, based on their expenditure (all the direct film production costs) emerged in the country.
Which films are eligible?
Films of all genres made for cinema release.
Feature films, series, documentaries and animations made for televisions or other distribution platforms.
Adult and extreme violent films, commercials, reality shows and daily soap operas are excluded.
How does it work?
The incentive is available through local production companies (such as Eat Carrots Films) who receive tax relief after their support of films or through the Collection Account operated by the Hungarian National Film Institute.
Film productions must apply for the incentive and the script has to pass a cultural test. Films must contain European content or cultural values and additional points are granted if EU nationals are either making or financing the movie.
